A Feature-based Non-planar Data Model for Urban Traffic Networks

On the basis of analyzing the characteristics of modern urban transportation networks, a data model is set forward to facilitate the GIS expression and operations on the modern urban traffic networks, which is based on the complete transportation features roads and synthetical connective lanes with same directions, and to offset the deficiency of the traditional data model based on the planar topology of arcs and nodes. Furthermore, the author develops a non planar data model of GIS for transportation on the basis of feature based data model put forward, to make it more suitable for traffic network modeling and analysis, and design the methods of conceptual modeling and logical modeling, which provides the basis for the corresponding data structure and database implementation.
