IN Service Security and Service Management Security and their Relationships - Using UPT as a Case Study

One objective of the introduction of more intelligence in the networks is the flexibility of the service usage, enabled by the provision of the user with a significant control on the telecommunication services. Those management capabilities given to the user cannot be envisaged without a strong protection of the service management; that protection and the protection of the service itself must be ensured in a consistent and seamless way. In the same vein, a user will not accept multiple security procedures, e.g. authentication, for accessing the network, the telecommunication service and application services. This paper investigates how service security features can be provided in the IN architecture to achieve that objective. Management of IN services is considered in a TMN perspective, and one particular topic of interest is the external access by an end-user to the TMN through an intelligent network, and especially the security aspect of that external access.
