Design ofaClinical Notification System

We describe the requirements and design of anenterprise-wide notification system. From publisheddescriptions of notification schemes, our ownexperience, anduse casesprovidedbydiverse usersin our institution, we developed a set offunctionalrequirements. Theresulting design supports multiplecommunication channels, third partymappings(algorithms) from message to recipientand/or channel of delivery, and escalationalgorithms. A requirement for multiple messageformats is addressed by a document specification.
