Test and Analysis of Rail Break Emergency Treatment Device for Railway Switches

The rail break emergency treatment device (RBETD) for railway switches has been developed to temporarily allow trains to pass through in case the stock rail of the railway switch cannot be replaced immediately a fter a break occurs. In order to test the soundness and reliability of its design so as to guarantee the safety of the running train, a field test was conducted with the emergency treatment device. The main components of the test include: the stress of the bottom edge of the common or frozen jointbar and the stress of the rail foot top at the center of the rail joint under different train speeds, the stresses of the vertica l bearing plate of the device and the rail foot hook, the forces of the fastening screw, the transverse displacement of the rail head, and the sinking of the rail foot. Test r esults and subsequent calculations show that the emergency treatment device is safe as long as the train passes through at a speed less than 25 km/h with the help of the d evice.
