Intracavity pumped optical parametric oscillator bidirectional ring laser as a differential interferometer

We report the operation of a bidirectional short pulse ring optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on a periodically poled lithium niobate, pumped intracavity by a linear mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser. A beat note on the order of 100 Hz with a bandwidth of less than 10 Hz attests of a very sensitive gyroscopic response of this all solid-state system. This solved the limitation of nanometer pump beam pointing instabilities in externally pumped bidirectional femtosecond pulsed ring OPO, which has a typical beat note bandwidth of several kHz.
