'MOVA' TRAFFIC CONTROL MANUAL. TRRL APPLICATION GUIDE

MOVA (Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation) is the new signal control strategy researched and developed by the Transport and Road Research Laboratory for isolated (uncoordinated) road traffic intersections. The method is implemented by equipment based upon a microprocessor, which can be connected to any modern United Kingdom traffic signal controller. The MOVA strategy has been fully described elsewhere (see IRRD 816386). This traffic control manual describes the MOVA logic including the optimisation of delay and stops, and various features for the control of special situations, such as flared approaches, or congested conditions. Details of detector siting and installation are also included. This Application Guide, is one of a series of three guides which together provide the user with detailed information on the MOVA method, its application and use. For Application Guides 11 and 12 see IRRD nos 829537 and 829538.
