Rescue Robotics [On the Shelf]

Science fiction has portrayed many varieties of robots that heroically rush into dangerous places to save lives following a disaster. However, no such sophisticated, diversified, intelligent robot system exists. The Dai-Dai-Toku (DDT) Project, described in this book, offers a diversified, well-coordinated disaster robotics project to be used following disasters, particularly earthquakes, which occur often in Japan where the research took place. These rescue robots were created to assist in search and rescue that is too dangerous for humans. In addition, they can reduce the risk of causing further damage during rescue operations and protect the safety of the rescue workers in action.
