Decision Making in Dynamic Environments

A matter of puzzlement is how, given their limited cognitive processing abilities, people are able to manage complex dynamic systems. In this paper we present a summary of some experimental findings which indicate more precisely the nature of the problems faced by human beings in managing dynamic systems, informally relate these findings to aspects of utility and risk, and also consider briefly some consequent ergonomic policy implications.
