Contrasting analysis of clutter and noise of frequency modulation broadcasting with echo power of target

Target detection by passive radar has attracted the attention of many researchers in the electronic warfare field. In this paper, the mathematical model of target detection regarding the FM signal as the non-cooperative illumination source is given to calculate the power ratio between the target echo signal and direct wave(SIR), the SCR and the SNR, and then to compare and analyze the strengths of them, drawing a conclusion that the direct wave always plays a dominant role in the whole system performance, while for different baselines, the proportions of influence of SNR and SCR on the system performance will change. This provides a theoretical basis for the follow-up clutter suppression and detection.
