Reducing KneeMorbidity amongCarpetlayers

Carpetlayers haveahigh prevalence ofoccupational kneemorbidity, partly attributable totheir useofthekneekicker to stretch carpet forwall-to-wall installation. While a mechanical alternative "powerstretcher" isavailable, kneekickers arestill widely used. A questionnaire survey indicated that unavailability of themechanical stretcher atinstallation sites wasamajor factor for continued useofthekneekicker. Strategies toreduce useoftheknee kicker arediscussed. (AmJPublic Health 1989; 79:334-335.)
