A smart thermal environment monitor based on IEEE 1451.2 standard for global networking

A networkable "plug-and-play" thermal environment monitor is developed which uses a thermistor and a polyimide-film sensor for indoor temperature and relative humidity (RH) measurements, respectively. The interface includes the relaxation oscillators for signal conditioning and a one-chip 16-bit microcomputer for networking. The microcomputer accommodates the calibration tables as well as the mandatory transducer electronic data sheets specified by IEEE 1451.2 Standard. The on-line calibration using the calibration table allows /spl plusmn/0.1 /spl deg/C accuracy in the temperature measurement range from -20 /spl deg/C to 50 /spl deg/C and /spl plusmn/3%RH accuracy in the RH measurement range from 10% to 90% RH. Measured data can be remotely monitored through Internet.
