Visual Simulation of Techniques and Effects of Thinning of Chinese Fir Plantations with Different Planting Densities

The selection of the planting density and the implementation of thinning measures reflect the level of the forest management. The plot of Chinese fir plantation with the size of 30m×30m and different planting densities including 2m×3m, 2m×1.5m and 2m×1m were taken as examples. The Chinese fir stand structure state in specific forecast period and the implementation and effects of thinning were intuitively simulated by using the whole stand model, the Weibull distribution model, the relationship models of the forest inventory factors, the biomass estimation model, the GDI+ technique and the MOGRE technique based on the C# programming language. The results were shown by the comparative charts, 2D and 3D views. It not only can service for selecting the planting density and the thinning measure in a scientific way, but also can offer a straightforward and efficient decision-making platform for improving the tree growth environment, enhancing the level of forest management.
