Our machine card-processing system utilises mark-sense punch cards and five standard cardprocessing machines. As the prime medium of man-to-machine communication we chose the mark-sense card, and it has been used successfully by hundreds of physicians and ward personnel in marking test requests and by our laboratory staff in marking test results. In contrast to the key punch which requires a trained operator punching cards consecutively at typewriter speeds (and which we use for limited amounts of data entry) the mark-sense cards permit large volume data entry by many persons NATIONAL MEETING Held in London, May, 1965.
