CYCLIC AMP AND SMOOTH MUSCLE FUNCTION *

In spite of intensive investigation, the nature of the biochemical processes involved in the regulation of smooth muscle tone and contractility is poorly understood.', In the present paper we provide additional evidence to that previously rep~rted,~-e indicating that cyclic AMP and the enzymes controlling its level (adenyl cyclase and phosphodiesterase) participate in the regulation of tone and contractility of uterine and vascular smooth muscle.
