VALUE OF GOODS TRANSPORTED BY TRUCK IN ONTARIO

In the past, transportation planners have not fully developed planning tools specifically to assess the intercity movement of goods. However a wide range of data has been collected and associated analytical tools developed to address priority setting and infrastructure demands of the auto and transit modes. Realizing this deficiency, the ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) completed a survey of commercial vehicles and created a truck model to address this problem. There are many benefits derived from creating a truck model based on origin-destination survey data. This paper discusses the model development process and presents a broad selection of the results.
