Multicarrier transmission with nonuniform carriers in a multipath channel

The multicarrier technique, also called orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), is a modulation method that can be used for high speed data communications. The transmission of a multicarrier (MC) signal with unequally spaced carriers through a multipath channel is studied. Different types of nonuniform carriers are considered. The effect of the multipath channel on this method of transmission is investigated. The influence of changing the number of carriers as well as the RMS delay spread of the channel on the performance of the system is studied and is compared with the equally spaced (uniform) MC method. The results can be used in the application of the adaptive MC technique for the future high speed wireless multimedia communication systems.
