DEVELOPMENT OF DESIGN RULES FOR RETROFITTING BY ADHESIVE BONDING OR BOLTING EITHER FRP OR STEEL PLATES TO RC BEAMS IN BRIDGES AND BUILDINGS

Bonding plates to reinforced concrete structures is a mechanically efficient form of retrofitting that is also inexpensive and unobtrusive. However, bonded plates are prone to about thirty mechanisms of failure. These failure mechanisms are illustrated in this paper, showing how design rules have been developed to quantify their occurrence.
