Chipless Radio Frequency Identification Tag Design with Modified Interdigital Hairpin Resonators

A modified interdigital hairpin resonator is proposed in this paper for chipless radio frequency identification (RFID) tag design. The proposed resonator features simple structure, high quality factor and easy tuning. Furthermore, spurious responses are effectively suppressed so that a wider bandwidth is obtained for higher coding capacity. To validate this concept, a 5-bit chipless tag with two wideband printed monopole antennas and five cascaded resonators is designed, fabricated and measured. The obtained measured results agree well with our predictions.
