Performance analysis of the 802.11 with a new model in nonsaturated conditions

DCF has received considerable research attention recently. Bianchi firstly presented an analytic model under a saturated traffic assumption, in which theoretical results can be accurately verified by emulation. Based on Bianchi's model, many improvements have been done, although most of them have assumption of the saturation traffic. Some papers also consider the nonsaturated traffic, but considering the decrement probability of backoff timer in every slot to be one. In order to reflect the real network performance accurately, this paper presents a new model adding idle backoff process, under nonsaturated traffic assumption and considering that the backoff timer decrements only when the channel is not busy. The part of simulation verifies the model's reasonability.
