Flexible Coiling Temperature Control System in Hot Strip Mills

Abstract Coiling temperature and cooling rate on run out table are very important factors to be controlled in steel products of hot strip mills. They have significant effects to determine material properties such as tensile strength and yield stress of steel products. Steel makers and electrical suppliers are making large efforts to improve coiling temperature control (``CTC'') to get better temperature performance and material properties. CTC needs accurate temperature models and dead time compensation to achieve the temperature targets. Authors have developed the flexible CTC to deal with these issues. New features of the CTC are discussed with simulation results and actual data in this paper.
