It is important to make clear the appropriate value of flexural rigidity when designing the carbody structure. For this reason we investigated the vertical vibration of the car body excited by vertical track irregularities and studied the relationships between flexural rigidity and riding comfort. As a result it becomes clear that a lower flexural rigidity generally causes poor riding comfort and especially in the case of a high speed car a lower flexural rigidity is not desirable.
