Algorithm of Non-interference Tool Path Planning of Auto Lamp Mold Side Pattern

After analyzing the properties of the design and the manufacturing of auto lamp side pattern, a non-interference tool path planning algorithm for the pattern was presented, which is mainly based on the intersection theory between a plane and a free-form surface. In the new approach, a projective curve of the key boundary of a side pattern, named pattern-constraint curve, is created on a normal plane of the mold-open direction for reference. Then, discrete points on the projective curve are calculated according to the machining parameters, and the intersection curves between the normal planes through each point and compound free-form surfaces are calculated subsequently. Finally, the tool path is optimized for the interference avoidance. The practical example shows that the algorithm satisfies the design and the manufacturing of a side pattern with lines and arcs composed pattern-constraint curve.
