Absceso hepático amebiano: ¿tratamiento farmacológico o punción-aspiración?

Resumen El absceso hepatico amebiano puede ser una enfermedad emergente en Espana a causa de la inmigracion y los viajes a paises endemicos. Su tratamiento, aunque basicamente es de tipo farmacologico, en ocasiones puede requerir un drenaje, sobre todo cuando por la localizacion o el tamano hay un alto riesgo de rotura. Presentamos un caso que, por falta de respuesta al tratamiento con metronidazol y su excesivo tamano, preciso un drenaje percutaneo. Este procedimiento, habitualmente realizado mediante puncion-aspiracion controlada ecograficamente, estaria indicado en lesiones mayores de 5 cm, en abscesos situados en el lobulo izquierdo o en casos sin respuesta al tratamiento medico.
