Compaction of soils and granular materials: A review of research performed at the Transport Research Laboratory

This volume provides a review and compilation of the results of the programme of research on the compaction of soil and granular base material at the Transport and Road Research Laboratory from the inception of the studies in the mid-1940s until the end of 1990. In addition to the chapters describing the results of tests with various types of compaction machinery, individual chapters are devoted to basic principles of compaction, laboratory compaction tests, measurement of the in-situ state of compaction, compaction specification, and the moisture condition test for the control of acceptability of fill material.
