Adaptive Predictive Control Application in Gas Distribution Network: A Case Study

The application of an adaptive predictive controller in Ahvaz gas distribution network is presented in this paper. Much great deal of attention has been paid to industrial automation in recent years. In the proposed approach, automation means a closed loop scheme in which cascade control strategy is combined with smith predictor algorithm to compensate the negative effects of long time delay in the control problem of gas distribution network. Moreover, in order to reduce communication volumes, predictive performance is inspired to the control system by using a lookup table which is applied to record the data based on ambient temperature and time of day and recall them in predictive mode whenever sufficient training occurs. Sensitivity of smith predictor to model parameters uncertainty is obviated by using an adaptive model for the system. Simulation results strongly confirm the validity of the proposed approach and show its benefits to balance gas pressure through the grid.
