Solubility of gases in water

Abstract The theory of solubility of gases in liquids proposed by Jhon and Kihara has been tested and extended to aqueous solutions of gases. In the present paper, the theory is discussed in terms of the significant structure model of liquid water developed by Jhon and Eyring. Besides the usual Kihara potential, the inductive interaction potential is used in the solute-water interaction terms. The calculated values of the solubility and its temperature dependence for the gases Ar, Kr, Xe, Ne, O 2 , N 2 , and C 2 H 4 show good agreement with experiment.
