Asphalt Tops the Charts for Environmental Stewardship - Again

Use of recycled asphalt pavements (RAP), recycled asphalt shingles (RAS), and warm-mix asphalt has increased significantly in the past few years. A survey conducted by the National Asphalt Pavement Association for the Federal Highway Administration found that in 2010, contractors and state DOTs almost doubled their use of warm mix asphalt from the previous year to 47.2 million tons. RAP use increased by 10 percent and RAS by 57 percent. Using warm mix, RAP and RAS lowers costs, conserves resources and reduces pollution. A table summarizes the survey results.
