100 Gbit/s, 500 km optical transmission experiment

Nearly penalty free 100 Gbit/s, 500 km optical transmission is successfully demonstrated using transform-limited optical pulses. By optimising the signal wavelength, low power penalties of 0.2 and 1.6 dB are achieved after 200 and 500 km, respectively.
