The Open GIS Web Service Specifications for Interoperable Access and Services of NASA EOS Data

Data is a representation of objects or phenomena in a formalized manner subject to interpretation or to which meaning may be assigned (ISO/IEC 2382-1, 1993). Geospatial data is the data that can be associated with location on Earth. Geospatial data is the dominant form of data in terms of data volume. Geospatial data are widely used in many socio-economic activities, ranging from environmental management to military operations. Because of the importance of geospatial data, both public and private sectors have invested huge amounts of resources and money in collecting, managing, archiving, and distributing geospatial data. The total amount of geospatial data is approaching exabytes and is continuing to grow rapidly.
