3D reconstruction on biplane angiograms of coronary arteries in pediatric cardiology

The software system developed allows 3-D reconstruction of vessel structures from biplane angiographic views. It supports the cardiology in two ways: first, the reconstructed model can be viewed from arbitrary direction and in any detail, giving a realistic impression of the anatomy; second, the model can be quantitatively evaluated, delivering accurate parameters with respect to geometry and hemodynamic consequences. One practical application of the system is the verification of the clinical outcome of the arterial switch operation. This operation on patients with transposition of the great arteries involves surgical mobilization of the coronary arteries from the aorta and reconnection with the neoaorta. The 3-D anatomy of the coronary arteries was reconstructed to compare their preoperative and postoperative morphology.<<ETX>>
