Plus, the other purpose of this study was to provide the theoretical background to establish the structure for environmental education in the Clothing Life area in the Practical Arts subject. The specific objectives for this study were as follows: 1. The elements of environment education in the Clothing Life area in the Practical Arts subject were analyzed. 2. The lesson plans, reinforced for the environmental education, on the Clothing Life area in the Practical Arts subject were developed. 3. The effect of the environmental education performed with the developed lesson plans on promoting children's environmental were verified. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the contents of environment education for the clothing life area in the textbook and the teacher guidance book for the Practical Arts subject in the 7th curriculum were analyzed, and the lesson plans for environmental education in the Clothing Life area in the Practical Arts subject were developed. Two 5th grade classes were selected arbitrarily from the D Elementary School in Ulsan City. One class, as experiment group, was taught with the developed lesson plans, and the other class, as comparative group, was taught with general lesson plans from the teacher guidance book. The questionnaire, which was developed for examining the children's environment perception, was utilized for both pre-test and post-test to find if there was a significant statistical difference in the results between pre-test and post-test. The conclusions made from this study were as follows: 1. Aa a result of analyzing the contents of environment education in the Practical Arts subject of the 7th curriculum, only the content of 'recycling of old clothes' was positively settled as an environmental education, and other environmental educational activities such as 'production of textile', 'arrangement and storage of clothes', and 'collection in separation' were barely settled. Thus, the contents for the environmental education were not only limited, but also attached too much importance to a certain area. 2. The 8 class hours amount of lesson plans in the chapter of 'Making stuffs by sewing' for the 5th grade in the elementary school were developed. The developed lesson plans were reinforced with environment education especially on 'contamination caused by textile production', 'recycling textile', 'methods to recycle old clothes', 'separating and collecting discarded clothes', and 'environmental contamination caused by laundry and method to decrease the contamination'. 3. As a result of experiment in this study, the environment perception of experiment group was more improved than that of comparative group. That is, the environmental education for the clothing life area in the Practical Arts subject was positively affected to the children's environment perception. It would be a great opportunity for students to promote their environmental perception level and to actually practice environment preserving activities if environment education would consist of the children's life based contents and more practical and experiential activities.
