Boost rectifier using single-phase matrix converter with bipolar output

This paper presents the operation of using a single-phase matrix converter topology with boost rectifier functions. Due to the inherent symmetrical nature and bi-directional capabilities the topology could be made to operate as boost rectifier with bipolar output operation. It provides alternative capabilities afforded by this advanced converter which could later be used for step-up AC-DC converter applications such as high voltage DC generation without the use of transformers. Selected simulations and experimental results are presented.
