Biomass and Structure in a Central Amazonian Rain Forest

Klinge and Rodrigues (1971) analyzed the structure and floristic composition of a central Amazonian rain forest stand northeast of Manaus, state of Amazonas, Brazil. The 0.2-ha study site was on level solid ground, adjacent to the Walter Egler Forest Reserve, which forms the western boundary of a 137,000-ha forest area inventoried by Rodrigues (1967). Structural studies of forest stands on level solid ground of the Manaus area have been conducted by Lechthaler (1956), Takeuchi (1960, 1961), and Aubreville (1961) on plots of 1 ha or less.
