Capacity evaluation in the up-link of a DS-CDMA system

In this paper an evaluation of the performance (carried out by computer simulation) of a DS-CDMA (Direct Sequence - Code Division Multiple Access) system in terms of carrier-to-interference ratio and capacity is reported, taking into account the propagation path loss and the shadow fading. The effects of power control, voice activity detection and cell sectorization are simulated as well. This study deals with the reverse (mobile-to-base) link, since it is the most critical direction causing the main limitations to the system performance.
