Transient responses of a pre-twisted rotating blade of general orthotropy

Abstract The transient responses of a rotating blade of generally orthotropic materials are studied in this paper. The external loads are assumed to be in partial admission, and viscous damping is adopted. The effects of the transverse shear and rotary inertia are included, and the influences of some operating conditions, such as angular acceleration, fibre orientation and the number of areas of partial admission, are discussed. Direct numerical integration is used to calculate the results and the time history of the deflections of the blade's tip is discussed.
