Test of Vertical Curve Overlapping Plane Curve for Dedicated Passenger Traffic Railway Line

Whether the line parameters of dedicated passenger traffic lines are chosen reasonably affects directly the train running stability and degree of passenger comfort. Track tests for measurement of the wheel/rail force and train running stability under test train running conditions are the main means to verify whether the line parameters are rationalized or not. The Qinhuangdao-Shenyang Railway is the first Passenger line running at 200 km/h in China. It's design parameters rationality was verified as an essential procedure. The wheel/rail force, car body acceleration and train running stability were measured while the test train ran through the sections where four vertical curves each of radius 20000m overlapped the plane curves of radius 5500m, 7000m and 9000m. The superelevation should be adjusted properly against the actual train running speed so as to reduce the unbalanced lateral centrifugal force. The test data show that at 250 km/h through the four overlapping sections the test train runs safely and the passenger comfort reaches the good limit value (the good stability coefficient limit being 2.75). The vertical curve is known to have little influence on train running.
