Other Projects and Progress

Publisher Summary This chapter introduces projects that may be shaping the library of the future. Much of the information is based on personal communications rather than on published articles. These projects relate specifically to the delivery of information in electronic form to the scholar or student; not included are the myriad projects for linking libraries in networks or using facsimile transmission to support the traditional operations of interlibrary loan and delivery of printed documents. The intention is to offer an informal sampling, not a comprehensive survey. The chapter also discusses the growing interdependence between computing services and libraries and presents a conclusion that cooperative relationships will be essential to take advantage of the potential that technological developments hold.
