Stability of a Heterogeneous Shear Layer in a Magnetic Field

The stability of a horizontal, heterogeneous shear layer subject to a vertical magnetic field of constant magnitude has been investigated. The stabilizing effect of the magnetic field is clearly demonstrated. The behavior of a medium with an exponential density distribution is considered in detail.
