Chapter 6 – Experimental Verification of the Acoustic and Electroacoustic Theories

This chapter presents multiple experiments conducted by the authors of this book, as well as independent researchers with the purpose of verifying acoustic and electroacoustic theories that describe the propagation of ultrasound through heterogeneous system. It is shown that acoustic and electroacoustic spectrometers that employ these theories yield information on particle-size distribution and ζ-potential that agree with results of other methods for a wide variety of different samples. Several equilibrium dilution experiments confirm that acoustic and electroacoustic spectroscopy provides particle-size and ζ-potential values that are independent on volume fraction of the dispersed phase. This confirms that existing theories take into account particle–particle interaction in concentrates properly when it exists.
