The Use of Microcomputers to Perform Airport Emission Inventories

The authors found the use of LOTUS 1-2-3, a microcomputer spreadsheet package that permitted easy calculation of emissions and easy revision of data for studying options in aircraft types, runway utilization, taxi time, and other relevant parameters (LOTUS 1-2-3 is a registered trademark of Lotus Development Corp. ). The ability to quickly revise and recalculate was especially useful for studying the various project alternatives under consideration. The power and convenience of microcomputer spreadsheets are presented in this paper as effective means of conducting airport emission inventories to allow selection of the best alternative, to check effects of changes such as growth or geometric changes in runways, and to optimize the airport planning process for reducing.
