Apparent Weight of Photons

The effect of gravitational potential on the apparent frequency of electro-magnetic radiation was measured by using the sharply defined energy of recoil-free 14.4kev gamma rays emitted by Co/sup 57/ and absorbed in Fe/sup 57/. The mean gravitational shift in frequency was measured to be (-17.6 plus or minus 0.6) x l0/sup 15/. (C.J.G.)
