A hybrid computer system for detecting and quantifying spike and wave EEG patterns.

Abstract A hybrid computer technique is described which permits the on-line detection and quantification of EEG spike and wave patterns. This system represents a specific application of a more general method for detecting paroxysmal EEG abnormalities which involves, firstly, relating measurements from individual waves to the average characteristics of the EEG signal, and secondly, using several types of information to determine whether or not a particular pattern is abnormal.
