Underwater optical communication using software defined radio over LED and laser based links

Underwater optical communication is an attractive means to achieve high datarate, low latency, and covert communication between underwater vehicles or sensor nodes. We demonstrate the viability of using a software defined radio system to communicate at Mbps rates using LEDs and lasers underwater and examine the performance of BPSK and GMSK simplex and duplex links.
