Deterministic Chaos: Introduction and Recent Results

The word chaos, from which our present word gas is derived, usually characterizes a state of disorder in a system with many degrees of freedom. We might imagine for example a gas whose molecules move around in a container in a completely disordered, i.e. chaotic, fashion.
