Digitization, digital books, the web, social media, etc. all have the potential to change the way we read and write and indeed styles of reading and writing have changed. But we can also look at the ways in which such tools and possibilities have changed the way we write, produce, and read paper books. This position paper looks at the author's experiences developing a book text visualization tool for analyzing the works in Philip Pullman's children's literature trilogy, His Dark Materials, and how the prototype has prompted thinking about the way tools for different reader audiences should differ.
