Nitrogen nutrition and canopy temperature in field-grown spring wheat

SUMMARY The canopy of spring wheat grown with an ample supply of nitrogen was generally cooler than the canopy of a nitrogen-deficient crop. The warmer canopy matured 3–5 days earlier. The accumulated temperature difference was sufficient to account for the different times taken to reach maturity.
