Method for measuring carrier speed based on ORB (Object Request Broker) character detection

The invention discloses a method for measuring carrier speed based on ORB (Object Request Broker) character detection. The method is characterized in that ORB characteristics extraction and matching are performed for two consecutive images acquired by a camera so as to obtain the displacement and speed of a carrier. The method comprises the following steps: graying the current frame and the next frame; setting an interested area; detecting characteristics points by an oriented FAST operator; performing characteristics matching for the characteristics points through a Rotated BRIEF characteristics descriptor; screening the matched characteristics points and removing the mis-matching points; analyzing and calculating the pixel displacement with the characteristics point pair; obtaining scaling coefficient through a system model so as to obtain the actual displacement and speed of the carrier. The method is simple and easy to be carried out; the detecting and matching of the characteristics points of the image are obviously sped up; the method is particularly applied to a visual acids system with high requirement on real-time performance.
