Rate effects in soil cutting

SOIL CUTTING, which includes all forms of soil cleavage in agriculture and earthmoving, is basically a dynamic process. Although quasi-static approximations of particular soil cutting processes over a small range of cutting rates can be very useful, extreme care must be exercised in generalizing the results. The continued development of a soil cutting mechanics is dependent upon the identification and quantification of cutting rate effects.
