Broadband planar antenna based on CRLH structure for DVB-H and GSM-900 applications

A broadband planar antenna is developed for DVB-H and GSM-900 handset applications. The planar antenna is based on composite right- and left-hand (CRLH) structures, of which the resonant frequencies are determined by the four CRLH parameters. It has been demonstrated by simulation and experiment that the proposed antenna can achieve a bandwidth of about 70%, covering the DVB-H band for return loss>5 dB and the GSM-900 band for return loss>7.5 dB. The antenna gain, efficiency, and radiation pattern are suitable for DVB-H and GSM-900 mobile terminals.
