A geometrical optics model for skywave radiation from antennas in irregular terrain

A GO (geometrical optics) model for scattering by irregular terrain is described. GO is limited to propagation paths that do not graze the terrain surface since diffraction or surface waves are neglected: however, it represents a relatively simple approach and can be applied to three-dimensional terrain models. The GO model was tested for scattering from a two-dimensional Gaussian ridge to compare with results published by L.A. Berry (1967), who solved a Volterra integral equation for the field over the surface and then integrated to get the field above the ridge.<<ETX>>
